  • What is a Student Association Chairperson?

    As a Student Association Chairperson, you’ll: 

    • Lead the Charge: Direct and coordinate your Association’s activities, guiding a dedicated committee of students. 
    • Champion Change: Campaign on key issues affecting your community and enhance student involvement in Union affairs. 
    • Be the Voice of Your Community: Represent your group’s interests at the Students’ Union Council and Executive Management Committee, influencing decisions that matter. 
    • Build Connections: Liaise with internal and external organisations relevant to your Association’s goals. 
    • Shape the Future: produce impactful campaigns, and leave a legacy of growth and progress for your Association.

  • What to Know
    • This is a voluntary, part-time, unpaid position.  You must be willing to commit time to the role in addition to your other commitments.
    • The term runs from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026.  
    • You must be a registered student of the University for the period you are a Student Association Chairperson.
    • Introductory training will take place in May 2025, with further training taking place in summer 2025, based on the availability of successful candidates.
    • Some roles in our Student Association require candidates to "self-define" as belonging to a specific group. Self-definition is a key part of an individual’s identity—it reflects how they choose to express who they are, regardless of how others may perceive them.

    • Make a Difference: Advocate for underrepresented groups and improve the student experience.

    • Be Recognised: As the lead representative of your Association, your voice will shape policies and priorities across the Students’ Union and the University.
