Fund It

Have an idea that benefits the Queen’s community?

Whether it's starting a wellbeing initiative, campaigning for students, purchasing Club or Society equipment, running a community event, or something else - our Fund It grants can give you the money to make it happen!

You can apply below for a grant of £50-£500 to help support a student-led event or initiative in Semester Two.

Applications are considered three times each year by a panel of Students’ Union representatives.  If your application is successfully shortlisted, you will be invited along to make a presentation to the next scheduled panel:

  • Application deadline 1: 10 January at 12 noon (presentations on 23 January)
  • Application deadline 2: 28 February at 12 noon (presentations on 12 March)
  • Application deadline 3: 25 April at 12 noon (presentations on 7 May)
  • Application tips

Please provide as much detail as possible in your application. We want to know:

    - how your idea will benefit students at Queen's and / or our local community and environment
    - what exactly you will be spending the grant on
    - why we should award funding for your project

Clubs & Societies are strongly encouraged to think about any celebrations or commemorative events you would like to run activities for (e.g. themed history months, international days to recognise or remember key events, national awareness weeks relevant to your Club / Society). This is your opportunity to seek bonus funding from the SU to help you deliver this kind of activity.

  • Planning your spend

If your request is successful, you must spend your grant by Friday 13 June 2025 and report back to the panel (details will be provided) by 30 June 2025.

Keep in mind that Fund It awards cannot go towards:
    - maintenance fees or scholarships
    - political or religious activity
    - direct donations to charities
    - any activity that has already taken place, or any costs incurred, before the date of the panel's decision

Be aware that you may use Fund It grant towards one-off trainer / facilitator fees, but not for project staff costs.

You may use a maximum of 20% of your grant on catering costs.

If you are not part of a Club or Society and are applying for equipment costs, please be aware that any equipment purchased using a Fund It award must be returned to the SU when your project is complete.

  • Things to remember

Fund It projects must be led by currently registered students at Queen's. SU staff will be able to help you finalise your plans, but it must be students who actually deliver the idea.

You must run your project in a safe and responsible way. You may be required to submit a risk assessment to the panel before any grant funding is awarded to you.

You may apply for a Fund It grant more than once in the same academic year, but you are not guaranteed to be successful multiple times. Each application must focus on a new idea or project, rather than a recurring cost or activity. Similarly, if your project has received Fund It support in previous years, it is unlikely to be funded again this year.
