BURC (Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre) offers free online English classes to migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees, providing them with the essential language skills they need for everyday communication in their local communities.
The classes are non-formal but follow a structured format, organized into modules that focus on practical, level-appropriate oral language. They help learners gain confidence in real-life situations, like shopping, navigating public transport, or speaking with their neighbours. They offer 5 different courses, from Absolute Beginners to Conversation classes.
BURC are always on the lookout for new Volunteer Tutors to expand their Team, teaching experience or a formal qualification aren’t a requirement. Training is provided and volunteers have access to a large library of resources and a very supportive environment.
To find if more about what it's like to volunteer with BURC, you are invited to join an 'Advanced Beginners' class to observe the BURC Delivery Team in action while they teach learners joining from Belfast and – far – beyond.
This session is held online on Zoom and join link will be emailed to you the day before the session.
