Enterprise Placement Year Scholarship
Did you know you can use your placement year to run your own business AND get paid for it?
The Year in Enterprise Placement Scholarship supports students who wish to use their placement year to work on their own business, which includes:
- £13,000 to cover living costs.
- Mentoring and support.
- Access to QUest accelerator over the summer.*
Eligibility Checklist:
Yes:
- Viable business idea – subject to application.
- Your degree pathway must allow you to take a placement year.
- Your placement year must be the academic year directly following your application for a scholarship.
- Meet academic requirements – i.e. you pass all required modules.
- Be a student of one of the following schools:
- School of Biological Sciences
- School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
- School of Mathematics and Physics
- School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
- School of Psychology
- Queen’s Business School
No:
- No self-employment
- Visa Restrictions**
The Process
- Book in for an Initial Chat with SU Enterprise to discuss your business idea and the application process
- Complete and submit the Application - we will introduce you to the appropriate contact in your school to guide you through this process.
- Receive an ‘Approval in Principle’ from your school
- Apply for the Scholarship.
- Complete a panel interview held in March or April.
- Receive the interview outcome
- Start your Enterprise Placement Year in June.

* Please note: students who receive this placement year scholarship will not receive the £3,000 salary grant under the QUest programme, but will receive the £13,000, distributed in three instalments across the academic year.
** Under current visa regulations (correct as of February 2025), students on a Student Visa are not allowed to run their own business making them ineligible for this scholarship.
